April-May
Ice out is a golden opportunity to catch the biggest trout the lake has to offer. The smelts start their spawning run right as the ice goes out and the trout chase them for an easy meal. Fly patterns like the gray ghost are a top choice for catching those hungry trout in the spring.


May-June
As spring rolls in to summer the fishing keeps getting better. The rivers and streams really start to come alive in May. Fly fisherman often find success swinging streamers and drifting nymph rigs. Anglers with spinning gear have little trouble catching their limit with worms or lures. Spring is also a great time of year to fish Big Wood for smallmouth bass.
Summer Fishing
June-July

Big Wood is a rocky lake with some excellent smallmouth habitat. Guests at Cozy Cove have reported catching upwards of 100 bass in one day. If you are a novice fisherman, or you want to get a kid hooked on fishing, bass fishing is the perfect choice.

Fall Fishing in Jackman, Maine
Many sportsmen hang up their fishing rods in the fall and focus on hunting. Fall in Maine is one of the best times to catch the fish of a lifetime. Mother Nature really starts to show off in in the fall. Not only are the leaves changing color, brook trout are too. Trout transition to their bright, beautiful spawning colors at the tail end of the summer. Make sure to keep your lawbook handy because many fisheries close protect the spawning fish. Despite some of the waterways shutting down for the year there is no shortage of spots to catch a nice trout in its spawning color phase.
