Meet the Cutlers

On March 8 2023 my wife Heidi and I closed on Cozy Cove Cabins. It has been a dream of ours to live “up north” for a long time. Since I was a kid I spent as much time in Western Maine as possible. Whether I was hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, or riding ATV’s, I always wanted to be here. When I got my guide license and got my first experience guiding clients, I knew I couldn’t wait until I retired to make my move north. Heidi and I had a great life in Southern Maine. We both had great jobs, friends, family close by, and a nice home. Despite all of that, we found ourselves on the road almost every weekend. Every chance we had we would head for the mountains and lakes of Western Maine. When I saw Cozy Cove listed for sale I had to go look. We had stayed at Cozy Cove a few years back for our anniversary. We had a wonderful time and the ATV riding in October was incredible. I made the drive to Jackman with high hopes. While walking around the property I knew I had to make this happen. I knew right away that this place was where I wanted my daughter to grow up. We had looked at a few places that we were interested in. I didn’t get that feeling anywhere else like I did here. After a lot of discussion with Heidi we decided to make an offer. Just like that, we were under contract.

There we were, 30 years old with a 1 year old daughter, under contract on our dream. The next few months were some of the most stressful months of our lives. The time between going under contract and closing was pretty long, but it flew by. Between both of us working full time, taking care of our daughter, and getting our house ready to sell we were completely exhausted. As closing day approached reality really set in. We sold our home, I gave my notice at work, and our whole life was packed away in a trailer. We still had to wait for the final pieces of the puzzle to fall into place before we could close. It was over two weeks from the time we sold our house to when we got the word we were clear to close in Jackman. Closing day came, papers were signed, and we were Jackman bound.

One month in, we are absolutely loving it. Jackman has been great, our guests have been great, and we are really starting to feel like this is home. It is without question this is what we are supposed to be doing.
