The Holidays are over and you may be getting tired of the dreary cold days.
Your children want something new to do on the weekends and then what to do for
winter break? Don’t sit at home and play video games…..Come on up to
Cozy Cove Cabins and play in our Winter Wonderland!
Jackman is known to have SNOW both before and long after any other areas of
Maine. With the miles of groomed snow mobile trails, frozen ponds speckled
with Ice shacks, and hundreds of acres of wilderness to explore, you will not
want to sit indoors and watch TV.
Load up the snow-mobiles, ice fishing gear, ATVs, and snowshoes and enjoy the
Jackman - Moose River Region. Trail access is only 300 yards from your cabin
and fishing is right outside your door on Big Wood Lake.
Sledding and Snow Play - We do not have a big hill to sled
down at Cozy Cove Cabins , but it is long enough so
that your children will have a great time riding a saucer or just playing in the
snow. We even have a few saucers for you to use.
Indoor Fun – If it gets TOO cold outside, come inside
your warm cozy cabin, make some hot chocolate, and play a game of monopoly with
your children.
Snowmobiling is the area’s largest winter sport with miles of groomed trails
through the great North Woods. Take advantage of our extensive trail system in
the Jackman region starting with ITS 89 which can take you from Rangeley to Canada
and connects to ITS 88 to Rockwood, and to ITS 86 to Greenville and beyond.
You will enjoy spectacular scenery and great places to stop for lunch along
the trails, all accessible right from your cabin door.
Trail access is only 300 yards from your cabin so no need to trailer out!
Then, after a day or night out on the trails, come home to a warm cozy
cabin to relax and enjoy time with your friends.
Too tired to cook? There are many restaurants and pubs nearby and if
needed, within walking distance. (Don’t drink and ride)
Here at Cozy Cove Cabins, we understand the
impact of the rising gas prices so to help a little, if you make 2 or

If you enjoy open water fishing with your children, you may enjoy Ice fishing even more. Cozy Cove Cabins is right on Big Wood Lake, and when the lake freezes over, the beautiful white mass comes alive with Ice shacks, ATVs, Snowmobiles, and of course, flags.
The best winter fishing month is January but you can be rewarded with a great catch throughout the winter season. You can fish for Togue, Salmon, and Trout or try night fishing for Cusk. By January 1st, the lake is usually covered with 3 feet of ice so bring your auger and your ice shoes because when the flags start to fly, you may need to run! The kids will have a great time running from flag to flag as each time they see a flag, they will hope they got that record breaking trout!
Some fishermen have “luck” right off shore and some prefer other areas of the lake. You can get to your favorite fishing spot on foot, with a snowmobile or ATV (depends on the snow), or your vehicle.
Season: Ice fishing season is from January 1st through March 31st. Visit the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife for more information on ice fishing regulations.
License: You can obtain a Maine fishing license online or in town when you arrive.
Ice Safety: The ice traveler should look for bluish ice that is at least 4 to 6 inches thick, in order to support people and their gear. Dark snow and dark ice are signs of weak spots.
"Thick and blue, tried and true. Thin and crispy, way to risky."
Imagine the several hundred inches of annual snowfall in this region….this is why snowshoes were invented. You can follow one of the many trails in the area or make your own. Take a quiet walk in this wilderness and explore the abundant winter wildlife.
The Northeast Championship is a Down East Sled Dog club event attracting teams from all over the
Eastern United States and Canada. This event is usually in March.
If you are interested in participating or being a spectator, visit the
Jackman Region Chamber of Commerce for more
information.
